A very happy new year from all of us at the Booth Centre!

We’d like to wish our visitors, staff, supporters, volunteers, partners a very happy new year. Thank you all for your support during 2021, it was a tough year but knowing our community was there for us made all the difference. Here's to a better 2022!

Christmas celebrations

Our week of Christmas celebrations was able to go ahead (albeit with extra measures in place to ensure we could welcome people safely).

Throughout the week we had Christmas dinners, art activities, visits from Santa, presents, Christmas quizzes and more. It is a real privilege to be able to spend this time of year with our visitors and create possibilities for togetherness and festive cheer.

We went into the new year remaining open and offering breakfasts, hot lunches and a support hub, running a slightly reduced service taking into account new government guidance.

Thank you for helping us create new chances!

Our Big Give Christmas Challenge was a huge success, raising an amazing £44,565 including Gift Aid! Your donations are making a huge difference to the lives of our visitors, from helping people move into a safe home, to securing employment, to taking part in activities or volunteering.

You can read more about how these funds are helping here.

Thank you so much to everyone who gave to our Big Give Christmas Challenge, set up a regular gift, donated essential items or supported us in any way over the festive season. Your support means so much to everyone here at the Booth Centre.

A special Christmas meal

2/12/2010

Noddy Holder serves mince pies
Yesterday, fifty guests from The Booth Centre and The Mustard Tree made it through the snow drifts to an enjoyable meal of home cooked soup, turkey (with all the trimmings), Christmas pudding, mince pies and chocolates looking out across the frozen canal at Choice Bar and Restaurant.

And as a little surprise we had a big help from a special visitor (no not Santa)... Slade frontman and all round national treasure Noddy Holder! Noddy is a patron of the StreetSmart charity and mucked in with the staff clearing tables, serving food, signing autographs and chatting to everyone.

One homeless Polish man who was at the meal had been to see Noddy and Slade in the 1970s when they played in Poland - the first Western band to play in the Eastern Block country, and the concert was paid for by the communist government. The two men shared some fond memories of the event and had their photo taken together.

Choice Bar & Restaurant holds this dinner every two years to raise awareness of the StreetSmart charity and to help those less fortunate at a challenging time of year.  A huge thank you to Jon Grieves and all the team at Choice Restaurant for organising this special event and for making it such a success.

Christmas carol concert and sing-along

26/11/2010

One of our supporters, Anikó Tóth, is organising a Christmas carol concert and sing-along in aid of the Booth Centre.

The concert will feature singing by sopranos Anikó Tóth, Rachel Gee and Esperanza Rodriguez.  Jonathan Ellis is accompanying on the piano. There will be melodic solos and three part harmony singing of classic Christmas songs.  You'll also hear festive poetry recited by actress Lisa Brookes.

There will be an opportunity to sing along with some of your favourite carols, so bring your voices and your generosity to this concert of festive cheer!

The concert is taking place between 1pm and 2pm on Friday 17th December at the Cross Street Unitarian Church.

Tickets are available for £5 on the door, or for £4 in advance from Forsyth Music Shop (Deangate), with all profits going to the Booth Centre. In addition you can make a donation in support of the event via the JustGiving page.
