At the Booth Centre we recognise the importance of working collaboratively with people who come to the centre to design, deliver and evaluate our services. We also work jointly with other organisations to achieve the best outcomes.
Working in partnership with winter night shelters
There has been a huge increase in the number of rough sleepers in Greater Manchester over the last twelve months and we have struggled to be able to help people to find hostel accommodation. So in 2016-17 the Booth Centre developed two new partnerships with organisations to set up provision for emergency accommodation.
Through these partnerships we have been able to provide an efficient and comfortable transition into emergency accommodation for people who visit the Booth Centre and find themselves in a situation where they are forced to sleep rough during the winter months. By working closely with both Cornerstone Safe Haven and Greater Manchester Winter Night Shelter, we have been able to provide better support for people by offering personalised advice and guidance for them to move into more long term accommodation and to find work. We have provided funding to enable 35 new bed spaces for rough sleepers.
Guests at the night shelter can visit the Booth Centre during the day and get support from our advice workers to find suitable long term housing options, access free hot meals, take part in our daily activity sessions and attend our employment support workshops. By working together with organisations who are providing people with somewhere safe to sleep, the Booth Centre can provide the extra support people need in addition to emergency shelter - supporting both the immediate and long term needs of those experiencing homelessness.
"I walked to the centre early on a Tuesday morning and was immediately given a towel, toiletries and the chance of a hot shower. I can’t tell you how good that felt... Within days and for months I was involved in all sorts of activities – arts, crafts, music, and session after session of philosophy. I loved it! Sports, museum visits and my favourite of the lot – drama!
