in 2010 we embarked on a giant-making project.  The aim was to create two Catalan style parading figures of St. George and the Dragon - based on a picture in Manchester Cathedral by Mark Cazalet.  

The project was a partnership between Manchester Cathedral, the Mustard Tree - where the giants were actually made, and the Booth Centre with funding from the Church Urban Fund and Awards for All.  The workshops were led by the artists Paul Devereaux and Graham Hudson.  We also held banner making workshops with the help of The Pump House People's History Museum and the Workers Education Association.

Over 30 people from the Centre were involved in making the giants, the banners, the costumes and taking part in the parades.  The giants had their first outing on the St. Georges Day Parade and then took part in a celebration of St. George in Manchester Cathedral and in the Manchester Day Parade.
