Examples of support

Hundreds of schools and churches from across Greater Manchester support our Harvest Festival Appeal. The donations are stored and keep us going for much of the year.

Many individuals, companies, local offices, schools and Churches support our Christmas appeal, and make donations of socks, hats and toiletries.

A local church organises a fruit collection on the first Sunday of each month and a member of the congregation brings the donations down to the Centre on the Monday morning, and has a cup of tea with us. This enables us to give out fresh fruit to help improve people's diets. We can always use more donations of fruit.

We often get a knock on the door from a member of the public who just hands over a few packets of biscuits (everybody likes to have a treat) or a jar of coffee. There are always people at the Centre from 8am to 4pm Monday to Thursday (sometimes we are out on a Friday) and donations can be left for us with the vergers in the Cathedral at other times, including weekends.

A local sandwich shop delivers us individually wrapped sandwhiches which have not been sold that day. We can keep them in the fridge and they are still fresh the next morning. (We aren't allowed to sell food that is past it's use by date or that has not been stored at the correct temperature, which includes food left over from buffets)

Some airlines have donated their business class toiletry packs, which are very useful for people sleeping rough who don't want to carry very much with them. Some regular travelers also collect their complementary toiletry packs and pass them onto us.

A mothers union group knits hats for us each year. As most of the people who come into the Centre are men, they particularly like dark colours.

The Manchester Masons donated a computer to the Centre, which enables people to check their emails and apply for jobs and housing on line. If you would like to donate an item of equipement just give us a ring and we can have a chat about our current needs.
